Riding motorcycles is an obsession for some and growing fascination and hobby for others. And of course there is also that population of riders who choose it as a reliable and less expensive means of transportation. Regardless of which category of rider you fall under, or wish to fall under, it is a growing trend for households across the country to have a least one motorcycle in their driveway or garage. And while the majority of riders have been placed into population subcategories in the past, and even assumed something of an anti-establishment or rebellious reputation, this is a stereotype that no longer applies and people from all demographic backgrounds are interested in owning and riding motorcycles today.

One of the recent trends in motorcycle ownership that has increased in popularity is couples that buy one to take weekend trips or drives. This is a great way to spend time together and see the country and almost everyone has someone in their family or knows of a couple that does this on a regular basis. The growing population of riders and the diverse reasons for ownerships are some of the reasons why a basic understanding of motorcycle maintenance and repair can be extremely helpful.

While spending the weekend in a woodsy cabin and getting their by taking a beautiful country drive on your bike may be an extremely attractive idea, being stuck out on the side of the road for hours due to an unexpected breakdown or performance issue is not. Basic repair guides and motorcycle manuals are easily available and frequently included with purchase and they can be an unbelievable benefit to ownership. Not only are they great to ride around on, but being able to handle or at least diagnose minor issues is an important part of ownership and feeling comfortable behind the handle bars.

How to Pack for Your Vacation in Montenegro

When many people plan a vacation, they plan their specific wardwrobe or clothes packing agenda, if you will, not only around where they’re going to be staying but also on what they plan to do while they are there. In some instances, such as those who are planning to visit the country of Montenegro, which is located on the Adriatic Sea, this can be a little confusing. Or, to completely cover all there is to do in this beautiful country, you may need to bring an extra bag or two or three. Okay, so this might be a slight exaggeration, and there are specific seasonal oriented activities and recreational options that could be considered. After all, a bathing suit doesn’t take up that much room, and you can always rent your ski gear if you plan to spend some time in the snowy mountains.

Aside from that you will probably want to bring clothes that are comfortable and easy to move around in. There are some incredibly beautiful park areas and they have great possibilities for hiking, fishing , boating, biking, climbing, okay basically anything you can do in the beautiful great outdoors you can do in Montenegro. There is even a growing interest in extreme sports and the country has some incredible white water rafting opportunities in some of its rivers.

Meanwhile, if you plan to base your stay further south in the country, say in one of the great Montenegro resort hotels that are found in popular beach towns like Budva, you may want to include some cool clubbing clothes. The nightlife and club scene in Budva and to an extent in other beach communities is amazing, popular and continually growing. This is one of the main beach area attractions and the quiet communities belie the incredible nightlife they enjoy. You might also be lucky enough to be there when one of the international superstar bands like the Rolling Stones or Madonna plans to have a concert on Jaz Beach. This is, by the way, an incredible place to enjoy a great concert and they are growing in popularity.

A Look at Orlando Adventure Parks

On May 16, 2010, in Travel, by laura

If you were planning a Trip to Florida this year but are worried that the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is going to put a damper on your plans you should look at the great cities available that aren’t along the western coast. Some of the potential spots that should interest you are Tallahassee, Jacksonville, or Orlando. Orlando, Florida in particular is a favorite vacation spot for many. It is the home to the most theme parks in Florida; not to mention the various water parks, museums and nightlife attractions.

Located roughly 45 minutes from the Florida’s East Coast beaches, and 90 minutes from its West Coast beaches Orlando has been a great staging city for vacations throughout Florida. For those who will be visiting Orlando, the city offers a great number of water based activities, for those who won’t want to go to the beaches this year. These vacation recreations include water parks, lakes, springs and rivers, as well as pools and water slides found at several Orlando hotel s and resorts.

The most popular places to visit in Orlando Florida include Universal and Disney World . In the 1980′s Disney opened the first park in Orlando and Universal Studios saw profit and soon was setting up to open a rival park, this prompted Disney to build a Florida based studio of their own and both parks have seen continuous growth ever since. Disney and Universal in Florida have used the available space to continuously expand their attractions while their California based studios have become limited by the city surrounding them each time you visit you’ll get both your classic favorite rides and a chance at something new it seems. Keep in mind though that not all the movie making is done on the West Coast either, Disney-MGM Studios is a 135-acre working studio with two-thirds of the park closed off to the public, where actual movies and television shows are being filmed, and one third dedicated to tours and rides.

Seaworld is another popular park to visit in Orlando, despite bad press, has since bounced back after losing a trainer during a show earlier this year, featuring many exotic ocean creatures and even some roller coasters and other rides. They even offer the chance to dive with their sharks in a steel cage. During the summer this park stays open as late as 10pm and features the seasonal attraction of “Shamu Rocks” where orcas perform tricks to a a mixture of popular rock stars and a light show. The original Shamu died in 1971, but the name was since trademarked by SeaWorld and has traditionally been given to different orcas at different times when starring in Seaworld shows.

Have you ever wondered where to find the world’s biggest Van de Graaff generator? Are you wondering now what a Van de Graaff generator even is? If you’re traveling to Boston, Massachusetts, detailed answers to both questions may be uncovered at the city’s Museum of Science .

At the museum, you’ll discover the largest generator of its kind, built by Robert J. Van de Graaf himself. It’s an electrostatic generator that employs a moving belt to create high electrostatically and stable volts on a metallic globe that’s hollow and sits atop a stand. This invention was created by the physicist in 1929, and often seen in old science fiction movies, such as Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein, perhaps linking it in the public mind to the instrumentation of a mad scientist.

The generator at the Museum of Science, on permanent display, consists of two fifteen foot spheres on two stands each 22 feet in height, with a capacity of generating two million volts. Two to three times each day you may see at the museum the generator and Tesla coils fired up.

While other museums have smaller versions of the Van de Graaf generator capable of producing lightning-like effects or make the hair on people’s head stand up, the giant generator at the science museum produces electrical bolts which shoot out over the heads of the audience. Ear plugs are recommended, because the demonstration is so loud.

No matter what day or month you book a terrific room in Boston , the Museum of Science has on hand equally great permanent exhibits, such as Cells, which takes visitors into the world of microscopic cells, or the Earth: Inside Out, which examines the mechanics of plate tectonics and teaches us about the reason for earthquakes. Frontiers of Biotechnology is another display which explores the new process of biotechnology and how humans are now shaping the world in ways never imagined. There’s also an exhibit on Messages, which explores the idea of communication, primarily in the world of animals, although there’s some discussion, too, about how we communicate with each other, such as communication via the words you’re reading now.
