The United States has long been known as top destination for education and work experience. People from around the world have come to study and to learn with the hope of bettering themselves and their home country. One example is the many medical students from India that come to the U.S. to study and become doctors. Many others come for internships through companies like Southwestern Company where they gain valuable work skills and references.

There is much to be gained from interning in the United States . Of course there are the job skills that help students understand the industry that they are working in as well as numerous opportunities for networking, making contacts, and getting references. But more than that, a U.S. internship is a cultural experience. It is a chance for students to experience another way of life and broaden their horizons. This is even more true for students studying business or sales. Business and sales are global industries, Southwestern Company has salesmen all over the world, and the U.S. is a major player in that field.

Not matter what field or industry students are interested in entering, the U.S. has much to offer. Once students have found what they are looking for it is important to act quickly as the application process for a student or work visa can be lengthy. But the experience gained makes it all worthwhile.

Five Bouroughs

On September 21, 2010, in Travel, by laura

Some cities are known for their neighborhoods or districts, while others are known by their geographical features, such as rivers or mountains. New York City is known for its five administrative boroughs — each with its own set of attractions and distinct populations. The boroughs can be ranked according to population or geographic size, but the most well known of the five is easily Manhattan. When you think of the New York skyline, it is the skyscrapers of Manhattan that come to mind. Home of the United Nations, Wall Street, Madison Square Garden, Times Square, the Broadway Theater district and Central Park, this borough is a mecca for tourists. It also houses the financial and corporate hub of the Western Hemisphere as well as many television and cable networks.

The borough with the largest population is Brooklyn which is know for its strong ethnic, cultural, and social diversity and its beautiful brownstone architecture. Brooklyn is home to Coney Island , beaches, and an art scene and thriving downtown that holds its own against the rest of New York. Queens is the largest borough geographically and also holds the distinction of being the country’s most ethnically divers county. Although the borough is largely residential, it is home to the US Open tennis tournament, the New York Mets, and the city’s two main airports, LaGuardia and JFK.

The Bronx is defined by its dedication to preserving parkland. The only non-island borough, the Bronx houses the New York Yankees and the Bronx Zoo, which is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States. Staten Island also features a protected natural environment. This largely rural and suburban borough has an undisturbed forest and seven individual parks with 35 miles of walking trails. The iconic Staten Island Ferry offers incredible views of the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan making it another must-see attraction when visiting a new york hotel .

Accessing Kanye West and Other Popular Artists

On September 18, 2010, in Music, by laura

It is possible to download and instantly play the music of all of your favorite artists, as well as to sample the work of different genres and new musicians. Music has always been an essential feature in our lives, and now the diversity of styles and quality of recordings that is so easily accessed makes it even more dynamic and constant. Major celebrity performers like Lady Gaga and Carrie Underwood are extremely popular, as well as others like a Kanye West download .

It is possible to find the music of all your favorites as well as discover new ones along the way. And the storage capacity of many music playing devices is more than what any cd rack could ever hope to contain. In fact, it would seem that devices like iPods and mp3 players might be making the traditional compact disc obsolete, but that is not the case, and in fact it’s common to download music and burn into your own cd. If anything, the technological advances that continue to change the way we listen to music, though they will never touch the way music exists in us, are expanding the way we collect and store the songs of our favorite performers as well as new artists and those we just want to sample.

Understanding Google Instant

On September 17, 2010, in Internet, by laura

Last week web searchers discovered that Google had raised the search bar yet again. On September 9th they officially announced Google Instant, a feature they had been testing for several weeks and that savvy search engine pundits predicted was coming soon. Google Instant uses what the big G calls predictive results to shorten the time of each search by as much as 5 seconds. The way this works is that pretty much as soon as a user starts typing, they will see results. No more waiting to press the enter key. If you watch closely, you can see the results change literally with every letter you type. Released initially in the US, the change has been rolled out slowly to other countries. As always, results are different if you are logged into a Google service at the time of your search or if you have search history turned on even when you’re not logged in.

While this does provide some improvement in usability for searchers, and potentially hours of distraction for anyone who wants to see what happens when they type certain combinations of letters or follow the interim results away from their original search, there are questions for anyone who uses the web to market their company or their personal brand. And in 2010, that should pretty much be anyone. Questions about how Google Instant affects search impressions , paid advertising impressions, and click through rates for organic and paid traffic should best be addressed by a qualified search engine optimization company like Elixir Interactive . Questions about the impact of this revolutionary change on insignificant things like attention span, focus, and lost hours of productivity due to being pulled away from your original search intent are likely to be debated for some time to come. If worse comes to worst, you can always choose to turn off the instant results so that you’re not tempted to start browsing instead of searching.

The Best Time to Visit Hong Kong

Want to check out the most modern and multi-cultural city in Asia? Hong Kong may be known for its breathtaking skyline, entertaining cinema, incredible food and shopping as well as being a hub for international finance and business. However, the territory also includes beautiful countryside that attracts hikers, climbers, and even bird watchers. Whether you want to enjoy the quiet, natural beauty of the surrounding area, partake of cultural festivals and events, or simply want to enjoy the bustling city when it isn’t quite so humid, you’ll want to carefully plan what time of year you arrive at your Hong Kong Hotel .

While Hong Kong offers an array of cultural and arts festivals throughout the year, some of the most popular occur in winter, when the humidity is low and the temperatures are much cooler. Chinese New Year may seem like the best time to visit: there are fireworks, traditional lion dance, and countless parades during this three day holiday. However, much of the city shuts down, which can make it difficult to find restaurants and shops that are open. Arts festivals later in the winter and early spring bring an international crowd to the area. The Hong Kong International Film Festival attracts film stars and directors from all over the world and the opportunity to attend premiere movies or spot celebrities in hot restaurants and bars. Other festivals include the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the Man Hong Kong International Literary Festival. Additional festivals start in the fall and run through December, culminating with the city’s celebration of Christmas.

For nature lovers, winter temps offer ideal conditions for hiking and climbing. Late fall is also a good time to visit, with October – December offering dry and warm conditions with lots of sun for outdoor activities. You’ll want to avoid the spring and summer as humidity makes the temperatures nearly unbearable.

Student Life, Movement, and Change

The majority of people seem to move from their house, apartment, or city, approximately every five years . It’s one of the more mobile cultures that’s been on the planet for a few generations, and it’s become much easier these days to plan out all the steps. With resources like transglobe property management services , a lot of the hard decisions can be done through a laptop, meaning that moving in general really has entered into the virtual realm.

As often as people move, however, and for all the different buildings one will occupy in a lifetime, there’s still something rather special about the first apartment . For a lot of folks, this happens during the college years, when growing up is coinciding with new surroundings. Everything is changing, and that can be much harder on the parents, because for them it’s a very sentimental time.

For the students, on the other hand, whatever sentiments might be there are usually swallowed up in the excitement of something new. The energy of youth overrides even the difficulties of carrying all the boxes, and for the first time move, it’s rather easy. Transglobe property management services has some extra resources for the student, making this transition even easier. Putting all the ducks in a row is something that can be done in a partnership, where the new apartment has a personal touch, and the residents will have the chance to really blossom.

Variety of Household Coffee Makers

On September 2, 2010, in Home, by laura

Coffee makers come in such a wide variety of sizes and styles that they are suited to any personal preference, kitchen space or specific use intention. And it is becoming extremely common for households to have multiple machines for various rooms and purposes. Most kitchens will have a least one standard twelve cup brew machine, though the use of the word standard might be slightly out of place. With today’s models, a standard coffee machine can have additional features such as a programmed brew time or even an alarm. And many models include taste preferences and various other options.

In addition to the “standard’” model, many homes will also have a small espresso maker on their kitchen counter, or if they have a home bar, they will likely be found there. There are multiple purpose machines that have both the traditional coffee pot brew as well as an espresso machine included in its features. Meanwhile, there are smaller coffee machines that are great for offices or apartments and dormitories . Having a coffee machine is as common a home appliance as a telephone or television set, and many people have just as many coffee machines in their home as they have televisions. And having a delicious cup of coffee can be a compliment to watching any movie or television show .
