Everyone has to spend some time in the Pioneer Courthouse Square while living or visiting Portland Oregon. This is known to be one of the top best public spaces in the world. It has become a central icon landmark for the city because it has really added so much to the city.

There are all sorts of interesting markers to see and learn about while spending time in the park. This started out as a shoe makers residence in 1849 and grew to be the center of a great city. The first school was opened on these grounds as well as one of the oldest courthouses on the west coast. The remains of one of the oldest grand hotels of the city still remain around the park.

In the sixties and seventies business men and city planners fought over the space that eventually became Pioneer Courthouse Square. Yes the city won the fight and bought the land and opened the square up in 1984. Since then major businesses have opened around it such as Starbucks first flagship store. The square puts on many concerts and special events every year and is a smoke free environment as of 2004.

All of portland best hotels have information on getting to the cities park and some of them are within walking distance. Maybe that would be a great thing to keep in mind when booking your trip.
